Rutland Area Robotics is a 501c3 non-profit organization that supports K-12 robotics teams in Central Vermont.
Our mission is to inspire and empower young people in the greater Rutland, Vermont area and beyond through participation in FIRST® Robotics programs. We are dedicated to providing hands-on opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) that foster creativity, teamwork, critical thinking, and problem-solving. We strive to build a community where students gain the skills, confidence, and leadership to become innovators and leaders who will shape the future.
FIRST LEGO LEAGUE
Friendly competition is at the heart of Challenge, as teams of students ages 10-14 engage in research, problem-solving, coding, and engineering - building and programming a LEGO robot that navigates the missions of a robot game.
We also have FLL Explore Teams for students age 6-9 to introduce them to STEM & LEGO Robotics.
FIRST TECH CHALLENGE
Students in grades 7–12 in FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) teams are challenged to design, build, program, and operate robots to compete head to head and make alliances with other teams. Participants develop STEM skills and practice engineering principles (like keeping an engineering notebook), while realizing the value of hard work, innovation, and sharing ideas. Teams also must raise funds, design and market their team brand, and do community outreach for which they can win awards.
FIRST ROBOTICS COMPETITION
Under strict rules and limited time and resources, teams of high school students are challenged to build industrial-size robots to play a difficult field game in alliance with other teams, while also fundraising to meet their goals, designing a team “brand,” and advancing respect and appreciation for STEM within the local community.
“We created a sport as exciting as every other—but the only one where every kid on every team has the chance to turn pro.”
